Historical Egyptian flag with a red field bearing a white crescent and white stars.
Used from 1844 to 1867 for the Egyptian Eyalet, this red flag with a white crescent and three white five-pointed stars served as both a civil and naval ensign during the later years of Muhammad Ali's dynasty. The red field reflected Egypt's continued affiliation with the Ottoman Empire, the crescent represented Islam, and the three stars symbolized Cairo, Alexandria, and Upper Egypt. It was replaced in 1867 by the flag of the Khedivate of Egypt.
This flag is a former version of Egypt.
