History
Central Papua Province was created in 2022 from the former western regencies of Papua. A provincial flag was adopted that year, and the bird-of-paradise is associated with the province’s motto, “Gerbang Cenderawasih.” The flag was selected through a public competition and was first hoisted during the inauguration of the provincial government in July 2022.
