White and blue lozenges arranged diagonally across the field in the traditional Bavarian pattern.
The lozengy flag is one of Bavaria’s official flags and derives from the white-and-blue arms of the Wittelsbach dynasty, adopted in the 13th century after inheritance from the Counts of Bogen. The design has served as a symbol of Bavaria since the medieval period and was formalized for civil and state use in the early 19th century. It is commonly shown with at least 21 lozenges, and the white-and-blue pattern has traditionally been associated with the sky or with Bavaria’s rivers and lakes.
