The flag of the Army of the Three Guarantees consists of a square divided into three diagonal stripes of equal size, rising from left to right, in white, green, and red, starting from the flagpole. Along these stripes, three six-pointed stars are placed in matching colors—green, red, and white—also arranged diagonally. At the center, within a white oval, lies an imperial crown surrounded by the motto: “RELIGIÓN, YNDEPEND, UNIÓN, REGIMIENTO YNFANTERIA”. Created in 1821, this was the first Mexican flag to display the colors we recognize today. White symbolized Religion; green, Independence; and red, Union. Guided by these three principles, Agustín de Iturbide led the Army of the Three Guarantees in a triumphant entry into Mexico City, marking the end of the War of Independence and the transition toward the First Mexican Empire.
